The
Southside Acappella Chorus evolved from a small singing group founded by the
late Evangelist K. K. Mitchell in 1955 to support the radio ministry he started
which aired on Radio Station WRMA. Since that founding and over the years, the
Chorus has grown to its present size. The 45-member Chorus is composed of
dedicated Christians who have always striven to give their best talent to God
which is reflected in the quality of their singing. The members of the Chorus
have been singing together in various choruses of the Church of Christ from
four to more than 50 years. Their principle goal and mission is to magnify and
praise God through songs. The Acappella Chorus has appeared in various cities
in concerts, on college/university campuses and church programs throughout the
State of Alabama and many adjoining states. Several concerts have been given in
penal institutions in Alabama . After each performance, they leave with a
renewed strength, inspiration and faith in their mission on earth. Encouraged
to preserve their music for future times and for all people to be able to enjoy
the rich harmony of human voices, three albums, several cassettes and CDs have
been produced, not for personal praise, but to bring glory to God and His great
Kingdom, to provide instructions in righteousness, consolation to the weary,
encouragement to the broken hearted, reassurance to the faithful, and joy, joy
to the sad so that all may know that there is a God, and He lives in the minds
and deeds of men. Under the directions of Catherine H. Williams, the repertoire
of the Acappella Chorus includes spirituals, classical hymns, anthems,
contemporary and gospel songs.
